This song is hysterical!!!

That is absolutely in my all-time top five "shoulda-been-a-hit" list.  A *HUGE* turntable hit on WNEW-FM that summer, they played it to death (Blotto are from upstate NY -- Albany iirc) and were the only station in NYC to feature it. I have a 12" single of it, on their own label, Blotto Records.  I kept hoping a major would pick it up and run with it, but it didn't happen.  You'd think the B-52s might've done a cover of it, at least.

Rob clearly knows his NYC rock radio history, and kudos on the Fischer-Z and Clash too. Too bad the Peak's new player doesn't work on my home computer.

Mike played that song for me at his place last time I visited SF.  (Something I'm overdue to do again - I have some vaca time coming in late August but have to think about budgets and other stuff.)  My first reaction was to pair it with "Rock Lobster" as a twin-spin.

Hmmm... the 12"" indicated they were indeed from upstate. And not only was WAPP very conservative, playlist-wise -- it didn't yet exist in 1980, I don't think.

ETA: I just confirmed that WAPP wasn't around in '80 (TANC: there was a thread about them on the NYRMB last week).

In 1982, Doubleday bought the station, and that June, the station switched to an Album-oriented rock format similar to WPLJ and WNEW-FM down the dial. The station was renamed "The Apple 103.5", with the call letters WAPP. The station went commercial-free for the duration of that summer, and as a result, it became the highest-rated radio station in New York City. Then, when the station added commercials, listeners switched back to WPLJ and WNEW-FM, and so ratings went down.
