and for you alphabetization junkies: The Beatles' "Help!" came LAST in the "Help" section (presumably because of the exclamation point?)
Yeah, that's how automated ABCization would sort it.

so, have you been listening to this thing at all? It's pretty damn fabulous.

Back to A-toZ in time for maybe the biggest treat of the week: Rick Astley's fabulous '60s Soul hommage, "It Would take a Strong Strong Man".

wow, Carly's "Jessie", which I surely haven't heard in decades.

Followed (of course!) by "Jessie's Girl". (for anyone trying to guess the next song, that point was probably moot)

New to me from JJ on KPOO: Edwin Starr's "There You Go", a #12 R&B single from the summer of '73, which sounds both un-Motownish and un-'73ish.

followed by Denise LaSalle's fab. yoo. luss. "Trapped By a Thing Called Love". "He makes me cry -- lawd! Ah don' wanna cry!"  And now Jr Walker's equally great "Gotta Hold on To This Feelin" -- gonna blow blow blow for ya 'cause ah love love love ya!

I hadn't expected so much '50s; TOMP was followed by "Teddy Bear" and "Teen Angel."  And, I'm guessing, next will be "Teenager in Love."  But if we get the 10 Teen Commandments, that'll be my OMGWTFLOL of the week.

ETA: The DJ, Pat St. John (!), audibly laughed during the line "I'll never kiss your lips again / They buried you today."

But no teenager in love, just ELO hanging on the "Telephone Line."

Big surprise in the "That"s: COTB, "That's Life."  But whoopsie: we get "The Air That I Breathe" and "The Beat Goes On" filed under "The."

It's really been a wonderful week on CBS-FM.  BTW, did you see my nasty encounter with Allen Sniffen on the NYRMB thread about this?  If not I'll call you and tell you the story off-line. He really is a MAJOR dick.

I'm reading the threads now, and am reminded of why I decided against following that board regularly.  Some people have direly narrow attitudes about what a radio station "should" and "shouldn't" play.  They need to lighten up a little - if Whitesnake offends their poppist sensibilities, they should go program their iPods to play what they want.  Sigh.

"There's a little cafe / Where we can hear music play": Marianne Faithfull's "Summer Nights" is new to me, would have sounded so much better if either Petula Clark or Dusty Springfield had done it.

Babs' "Where You Lead"/"Sweet Inspiration" medley was quite a workout!

Nice: the Original Caste version of "One Tin Soldier," new to me.  A little lacking in the refrain vox, but fine otherwise.  Were the Original Caste a real band?
