26 June 2008: 1988
« on: June 26, 2008, 10:03:42 AM »
My last 10@10 (in real time) for the week: I'm in training today from 9-1 and tomo'w from 8-noon.  So I'll miss Dave's Pride Set as well as what I suspect may be a '60s set today.

You won't be so sorry to miss 1988 I think.

This set's going to be a disaster.  If we get "I'm No Angel" or anything else from John Hiatt, I'm outta here.

The time has come to say fair's fair.  Please Dave, give us a few surprises and no Katrinas any bigger than this one.

LOL!  The requisite Dan Quayle montage into "Crash" by the Primitives...so shut, shut your mouth 'cause I'm not listening anyhow.

First enthusiastic BOS from me.

BOS for Crash--but is this from '88? I associate it with the early 90s more than 88, but in 88 I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to alternative bands.
Let's get right to it.

I want to say it got a re-release; I faintly remember hearing/seeing it on 120 Minutes. (Pre-Dive Kendall.)

This set's much better than I expected; BOS to the Leonard Cohen.

It was, I was in SD 87-89 and this was definitely one of my favorites from 91X.

I couldn't ID the movie.  HM to Robert Cray.  Think we can make it through this set without any Crowded House?

Hey Urth, first time in a while that we're both here in real time.

How's the unpacking & settling in going?

That explains it--per AMG there was a remix of Crash released in '95, which jives more with my memory than its original bow.

And WOS to the Robert Cray.

BOS2(FRA) to Dylan's "Silvio."  Was this the one he co-wrote with Robert Hunter?

Hey Urth, first time in a while that we're both here in real time.

How's the unpacking & settling in going?

Pretty well--we're mostly unpacked (the essential stuff anyway--still a lot of books and CDs in boxes, but we have shelving issues to resolve first). Very different here--but we're starting to meet people and have made a couple expeditions into Portland for various things. Now the focus is on getting the weeds and so forth under control (trying to avoid chemical solutions if possible) and on finding a steady gig. Heard of two freelance opportunities yesterday tho, so maybe the steady thing won't be necessary so soon.

Spent a couple hours the other morning trying to navigate the application process for Kaiser Northwest (it's a nearly separate entity from Kaiser NorCal and is not included in CNET's COBRA offering). Came to the realization that you don't have to dig too far into our health care system to get an idea of how broken it really is--terribly confusing, not to mention frustrating when you realize what is covered, or rather, what's not.

So how's things with you? You residing in the Sunset again? Ironic that you'd move out there just as I move out. And how's the new gig so far?
Let's get right to it.
