yea, Lighthouse!

a lil' info from Wiki:
The group was originally scheduled to play at Woodstock but they decided not to, fearing that it would be a bad scene. Years after, many of the group members said they regretted the decision.

The founding members were Skip Prokop on drums, Ralph Cole on guitar and Paul Hoffert on keyboards. The band also included Howard Shore on saxophone, Larry E. Smith on trumpet, keyboards and vocals, and Grant Fullerton on bass guitar. There were 13 members in all in the original lineup.

Bob McBride replaced Pinky Dauvan on vocals in 1970. The group performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Newport Jazz Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival. They received four Juno Awards in 1971, 1972 and 1973, when they were awarded Group of the Year. The band toured with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet production Ballet High.

The band lost key members in 1973 and 1974 and finally broke up in 1976 but reunited for a series of shows in Toronto in 1982. One Fine Weekend was a weekend of concerts at Ontario Place. It was shot and multi-track recorded for a one-hour music special which was aired on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).

They had hits with songs "One Fine Morning", "Hats Off to the Stranger", "Pretty Lady", and "Sunny Days".

Here's hoping this is some sort of "Summertime Blues" megamix, as I really wanted some Blue Cheer. Kinda sad when a Summer Set yields 2 WOS's...

Ha! yeah there is a bit of a similar sound between the 2, I never thought about it before. Ironically, Lighthouse was probably the more talented band, and yet they never had huge hit a la "Brandy".

OMG! the same Howard Shore who went on to compose dozens of film scores, most notably the LOTR trilogy! I never knew that!

Yes, and he was bandleader on SNL in the 70's "Howard Shore and his All Nurse Band"

I proposed my own "Summer" set at babyivebeenthinking.blogspot.com.  Small amount of overlap; I omitted the "Summer Days" (I love Lighthouse, but not so much that song) and "Girls in Their Summer Clothes" (oversight on my part; a fine Broooce track, and he was made for summer nights).

Surprised Dave left out War (though we got them from Ginger) and the Cars' summa-summa-summa like a merry-go-round.

WOS2 Motels -- yeesh.

We definitely have different musical tastes. You love early 70's music, I hate it. You hate artists like Eric Clapton, I like it. I like the Motels.

It was more a WOS vote for the fact that it really isn't what I'd call a "summer song", it's just a song that happens to have "summer" in the title, if that makes sense.
