6 June 2008: Bo Diddley Beat
« on: June 05, 2008, 08:33:16 AM »
Dave said this morning he was taking suggestions for songs.  I suggested Quicksilver's "Mona."

here's the text of my email on Tuesday morning.

Hi Dave,

Just a thought.  Bo Diddley is such a giant in R'n'R history, and his signature beat has
been used so well by so many for so long, maybe you could do a special set for him on
Friday in honor of his passing.

Off the top of my head here's a short list of great songs with the Bo Diddley beat:

"Not Fade Away," "Willie and the Hand Jive," and "I Want Candy" all have multiple
versions to choose from.  And then there's the Who's "Magic Bus," Bruce Springsteen's
"She's the One," U2's "Desire," Pretenders' "Cuban Slide" and George Michael's "Faith".

Cheers!

Mark

I'm expecting this to be a pretty short set, but a good one.

Frankly, if somebody gave me a coat made out of a nanny goat... I'd dump him immediately.

Could be long if we get Dead's "Not Fade Away" + Bruce "She's The One" + Quicksilver "Mona" + Thorogood "Who Do You Love" = Excellent set!

BOS2 "Panic in DEE-troit", tho' I think its inclusion is a tad questionable -- a little too slow to be truly Diddleyish, IMHO.

Speaking of slow, here's your favorite slow hand.  Regarding the Bowie, I almost edited my post to say I don't really hear the unvarnished BDB in PID, but I could hear how he got from there to here.  As it were.
