The Drive, 3/27/08: 1980

ooo! a new montage from Bob. (like, TOTALLY!)

But starting a 1980 set with a live version of "Lola" by the Kinks is a bit of a cheat, IMHO.

His montages are consistently inspired.

Surprisingly, this is the first time anyone's gone to 1980 since March 4.

2nd "meh" in a row: Mr Browne, "That Daryl Hannah Could Sing" (oh wait, I guess he didn't know her yet in '80).

Mick's so hot for her, but she's so cold -- "Cold Ethyl", I think her name is.

Is this Heart?  New to me!

seriously? it has shown up fairly regularly from both Bob and Dave, iirc. "Even it Up", another of their great radio-friendly singles. BOS from me.

Missed the set, and it's not like it's got any real bustouts (except maybe the Genesis?), but this sure is a damn good snapshot of freshman year in the dorms for me.  Seriously 8 or 9 of these tunes are zeitgeist/flashback/sledgehammers pour moi.  May have to contrive to listen at home tonight.

The Kinks - Lola (live)   13.3%
Jackson Browne - That Girl Could Sing   8.6%
The Rolling Stones - She's So Cold   6.7%
Heart - Even it Up   7.6%
R.E.O. Speedwagon - Take it on the Run   9.5%
Genesis - Behind the Lines   6.7%
Steely Dan - Time Out of Mind   9.5%
AC/DC - Back in Black   19.0%
The Police - De Do Do Do De Da Da Da   1.9%
John Mellencamp - Ain't Even Done with the Night   17.1%
