11 March 2008 - It's 1968 - for Tony Salvador!!!!

woo hoo!

An 'On This Date' set ta boot!

Dave's tribute to KFOG Sales Director Tony's 40th anniversary in radio may well have been the longest set intro I can recall, even longer than when Dave annually has to spend 5 minutes explaining what a "Turkey" is and isn't.

Thank you, Tony, for a career in radio ... and for giving Dave an excuse to play Smokey & the Miracles' "If You Can Want"!  Mike will want to catch the replay, fo sho.

I'd have said that March is normally slim picken's for theme sets, but after today Dave is already on the record as owing me a SI set, and last Friday's b-day boy a makeup VT.  Add in St. Pat's & the first half of this month could be pretty interesting.  If it weren't a leap year we'd have had a Friday the 13th as well.

Hard to believe, but that was only the 2nd time the Mission Impossible Theme has appeared in my Db, and the 1st for a year-specific set.  (other was in last year's "Earworms" set, not in a SI).

And now Blue Cheer is actually a Bustout.  Hoodathunkit!

I love the nonsense that results when Blue Cheer doesn't bother to sing the final line of any of the verses.  "I called my Congressmen, and he said, 'Whoa, dig this, boy ...' "

That's 'cuz they had to impress us with their distorted guitars instead.  And it worked, too, since Lester Bangs officially annointed them as the first Heavy Metal band after this.

Continuing an astonishing string of all-time-faves for me, it's the Supes, "Forever Came Today."
