Hillary as Hitler? Olbermann's head may explode.

Over-the-top, yes, but pretty damn funny.

that's great! gotta love bruno.

Bruno?

That's Bruno Ganz, the great German actor, playing Hitler in the film Downfall, which came out a few years ago. They took that clip and wrote the hilarious new subtitles. Very clever.

actually, he's swiss. for some reason, i always thought he was italian.

oops. I almost said Austrian.

Moving the discussion of the gay marriage and political response over here.

Obama probably can't come out in support of gay unrestricted marriage*, because in the sense that "Only Nixon could go to China", he's too middle of the road to make such support tenable.  My dad points out that Obama was 'raised white' and simply does not have the deep visceral understanding of the Black Church, despite listening to Rev. Wright for 20 years.  And Obama is certainly aware that he is vulnerable to attacks of 'not being Black enough' and that this particular issue could really charge up that argument, something the GOP hit squads must surely already be scheming about.

(My folks are also shaking their heads at the way Wright acted at the press conference leading up to Obama officially disowning him, agreeing that he left Obama no choice.  But now he is on thin ice with his core constituency).

My mom also takes serious issue with people just calling Obama an African-American, and not saying that he is of mixed race, and therefore every bit as much white as he is black.  This resonates with me of course, having mixed-race kids myself.

*and how come no one on my side of this issue has tried to win the lexical battle?  The issue should be presented as Unrestricted Marriage, and any time someone on the other side of the argument talks about Gay Marriage or Protection of Marriage, they need to be unceremoniously corrected.

On a different note, there's an article in the Rocky Mountain News about the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver, and the file photo happens to be of my cousin Jerome, who is an Air Force officer, a doctor, gay & lives in Denver with his partner George.

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean, left, in Denver to help the state party raise money and answer questions for people planning to be delegates at the state convention, signs an autograph for Dr. Jerome Schroeder after giving a presentation.

I completely agree! I'd never heard the expression until you used it today and I think it's great -- analogous to "pro-choice"-as-opposed-to-"pro-abortion". Unfortunately gay activists are often loathe to use "neutered" language because they see it as a concession. They're a pain in the ass that way (pun intended).

Unrestricted marraige wouldn't be quite accurate though -- we still need to restrict incestuous marraige.  And Unrestricted Except for Incestuous Marraige is a mouthful.  On the other hand, there is no scientific reason to prohibit same-sex incestuous marraige.  I mean, if married twin lesbians adopt a child, it's not suddenly going to grow a tail, is it?

What were we talking about?  ;D

LOL!  right-wingers would support married twin lesbians... as long as they could watch.

Wrote this short poem this afternoon.

Journamalism Is My Wingman; Or, I Want to Spoil the Party

Media creatures with a false voice
Presenting America with a false choice:
Align with the party of William Ayres
Or align with the party of billionaires.
Pick a side; and once you decide,
You're in part and parcel; you're on for the ride.
Nuance is hard. Simple is neat.
Dumb is authentic. Smart is elite.
Take all those busy thoughts out of your head
And go watch Desperate Housewives instead.
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

That's brilliant! You need to submit it to poetry journals.

David Brooks on today's NYTimes Op-Ed page:

"My first thought on the running mate question is that to balance his ticket, Barack Obama should pick a really old white general. Therefore, he should pick Dwight Eisenhower. John McCain, on the other hand, needs to pick someone younger than himself. Therefore, he also should pick Dwight Eisenhower."

That's pretty funny.  I'd like to see Obama select Jim Webb of VA.  But I'd be OK with a ticket of him and Hillary Clinton.
