I'm Not There Movie Review
« Reply #81 on: November 25, 2007, 01:07:37 AM »
Maybe I  should've posted in the movie area, but it's not much of a review, more of a check-it-out shoutout:

There's nothing I can add to this that your commenters haven't already. Except that having a draft wouldn't keep the military from having "an inordinate proportion of low-income young people": the rich and connected would still find ways to get their exemptions.

Indeed, some weeks ago, Time magazine did a 10 Questions fluff piece with the dullard Jenna Bush in which, on being asked why she and her sister aren't serving in their daddy's war, she replied, "if people really thought about it, they would know it's not even a practical question."  (Fortunately, a veteran's wife had the presence to ask in a letter the next week, "Ms. Bush, for whom is war practical?")
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

Yes, I think the responses this time were better than the blog itself.  In a perfect world, there would be no exemptions, male or female.  But corruption has a way of leaking through the cracks, doesn't it?

No freakin' kidding--I noticed you weren't around on Friday for the '69 set but figured maybe you took a long weekend or something. Glad to hear you're home and doing better, but jeez, you must have been scared s***less. (Not to mention Martha and your family.) Sounds like you are definitely taking this to heart though, so that's a good thing. I could learn a bit from this as well--my diet is not the greatest.
Take it easy for awhile--your students will be there when you get back.

Let's get right to it.
