"Happy Xmas" was released in '71, no?  But big BOS to Big Star!!  Why they didn't make it at the same time the 'berries were having hits is a mystery.

I thought so too, and in fact had initially mislabeled this thread "1971" before hearing them say the year.

VHM to the Dan, the things that pass for knowledge I can't understand.

I remember it vividly. Howard Smith, a Village Voice music writer (he later became a filmmaker and won an Oscar for the docu Marjoe) had a Sunday night show on WPLJ. He was good friends with J&Y and did the "world premiere" of "Happy Xmas" the Sunday nite of Thanksgiving weekend '71. Within a week or 2 WABC was playing it and the rest, as they say...

Your stream is running ahead of mine; I was just on my way to what would have been a jinx.

John Lennon Happy Xmas (War is Over)
Little Feat Cold, Cold, Cold
Yes Roundabout
David Bowie Hang Onto Yourself
Stevie Wonder Superstition
Big Star Feel
Steely Dan Reeling In The Years
Fleetwood Mac Bare Trees
Raspberries Go All the Way
Grateful Dead Jack Straw

great stuff, even if J&Y are from the wrong year.

Yikes this NY Lottery commercial using the Spoonful's "Daydream" is quite hokey.
