aw man, it sucks I never got to go.   That place sounds like year-round county fair featuring acts of that caliber.

Not a concert but a live presentation: latest from Richie Unterberger, whom Mark and I caught in San Jose doing his Woodstock presentation.

Yes, I know that a couple of months ago I stated that my October program at the Haight-Ashbury library would be my last one there for about a year, as that building is going to be closed for renovation. But, as the great Screamin' Jay Hawkins once sang on "I Put a Spell on You": "I-iye liye-yied. Yeahhhhh!" Though not deliberately. 'Cause it turns out the renovation's not happening yet, so I'm going to be doing at least one more program at that location before the library closes down for a while.

So on Wednesday, December 9 from 7pm-9pm, I'll present a program on "Rock'n'Roll, The First Decade: From Elvis to the Beatles" at the Park Branch of the San Francisco Public Library at 1833 Page Street. Included will be footage from the mid-1950s through the early 1960s of Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Wanda Jackson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, the Collins Kids, the Everly Brothers, Cliff Richard, the Shadows, the Four Seasons, the Beach Boys, the Miracles, Dick Dale, and others. Admission is free.

Also: this Wednesday, December 2 from 7pm-8:30pm, I'll be discussing my book White Light/White Heat: The Velvet Underground Day-By-Day at the Sunnyvale Library at 665 W. Olive Avenue in Sunnyvale. Rare audiovisual material from throughout the Velvet Underground's career will be featured. Admission is free.

Saw Zappa Plays Zappa last Friday night at the Montbleu (formerly Ceasers) in Tahoe (ROAD TRIP!).  Very cool, energetic and entertaining.  Highly recommended, and I think they are playing the Redwood City Fox soon.  Bring the kids!*

* Unbelievable number of young children at the Montbleu show -- don't Zappa fans know what the songs are about?

The theater's website lists only the Turkish group referred to in the article. The adjoining Little Fox club space has several shows listed, but nothing beyond December 18.

No mention of ZPZ.
Let's get right to it.

They're in Santa Cruz tonite... and that's as close as they come to SF.  They're also changing their name to Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa, which is a tad less symmmetrical, IMHO.

3 or 4 yrs ago KFOG did a live&local there, and Alicat & I attended.  That owner guy John in the article was there as was the mayor of RW City talking about the downtown revitalization plan.  What a shame.

I've been to a couple of shows at the Little Fox, and it's a great place.  Too bad about their troubles.

Southern Oregon concert

found this interesting article.  It landed in my news filter because the pipes player is in Wake The Dead.  Looks like it might be interesting.  Don't know how close to Ashland Urth is!

Sounds interesting, and the price is right, but Ashland is about 5 hours from here, at the southern end of the state, while I'm about 40 miles from the northern border.
Let's get right to it.
