So if the Raiders and/or the Niners win out... (urk). Couldn't finish that sentence.
They're more likely to lose out. Seriously, the Niners are currently the worst team in the league, Rams & Dolphins included, & going in the wrong direction. The Raiders are 2nd or 3rd worst.
Have you SEEN Miami? They are pathetic. Once they lost that rb to injury (he ran ramshod over the Raiders, but then, who doesn't?), they became the odds on favorite for the first pick in next year's draft. They may go 0-16 (tho i picked them to win this week).
But close enough. The bottom 6 -- Atlanta, Rams, Raiders, Niners, J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets, and Miami, in no particular order -- are all extremely feeble. If one of them beats Cincy, then they rise up to 7th worst.
The Dolphins are unquestionably pathetic, but they have lost 3 games by a field goal each, and they have been worse than decimated by injuries (as have the Rams). The only reason the Niners won their first two games (both of which saw them win with under 200 yards of total offense), is because the Rams fumbled a punt deep in their end of the field late in the 4th quarter, and because the Cardinals didn't have the sense to bat a late 4th qtr Niners fumble out of the end zone for a touchback. Both cases resulted in the Niners getting a ball back that in most cases they wouldn't have, which then led to last minute wins.
In a not very dissimilar alternate universe, Dante Hall fields that punt cleanly & the Rams win, the Cardinals either recover the Niners' fumble or at least bat it out of the endzone for a change of possession touchback, and the Niners are 0-8. One missed FG by one of the Dolphins' opponents & they get at least one win. In any case the way the teams have played lately, the Niners are the only team that is actually getting worse week in week out. I'm going to assume the Raiders are going to let JaMarcus play pretty soon, and they might get exciting to watch.
