Doing our level best to stay neck and neck thru the season: Mark got 8 this week; Alicat, Rod & Geoff all got 9, Gaz & Mike had 10, and I got 11. I think Mark's still in first among our group, but we're tightening up the pack again.

I'm assuming this post was made before MNF was over?  Although we all picked PIT tonite.

Yep, should have said that all those totals were pre-MNF. I wrote it about 5:45, despite what the time stamp says.
Let's get right to it.

oops!  I forgot Daylight Savings Time was over.  If your profile has a time shift, those of us here on the west coast should set to -8 hours GMT

congrats to Peter Finch -- a perfect score this week. Wish I'd had the foresight to bet against both the Niners and Raiders.

Wish I'd had the foresight to take last year's bottom 3 teams from the NFC North to go a collective 3-0 against the top 3 teams in the AFC West.

fwiw, the AFC West & NFC West went a combined 0-7 last Sunday.  The only team that didn't lose was the 0-8 Rams...who had a bye.  Now neither division has a team with a winning record.

So if the Raiders and/or the Niners win out... (urk).  Couldn't finish that sentence.

No prob, it's happened before with others in our group. I was just going with my gut on my picks, but after I'd entered them I discovered I'd duplicated the "crowd favorites" to the letter. Guess they're crowd favorites for a reason.
Let's get right to it.

They're more likely to lose out.  Seriously, the Niners are currently the worst team in the league, Rams & Dolphins included, & going in the wrong direction.  The Raiders are 2nd or 3rd worst.

tough week in that NE has a 'bye -- they're usually a gimme for everyone!  Toughest choice: DAL or NYG.

Have you SEEN Miami?  They are pathetic.  Once they lost that rb to injury (he ran ramshod over the Raiders, but then, who doesn't?), they became the odds on favorite for the first pick in next year's draft.  They may go 0-16 (tho i picked them to win this week).

But close enough.  The bottom 6 -- Atlanta, Rams, Raiders, Niners, J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets, and Miami, in no particular order -- are all extremely feeble.  If one of them beats Cincy, then they rise up to 7th worst.

The Dolphins are unquestionably pathetic, but they have lost 3 games by a field goal each, and they have been worse than decimated by injuries (as have the Rams).  The only reason the Niners won their first two games (both of which saw them win with under 200 yards of total offense), is because the Rams fumbled a punt deep in their end of the field late in the 4th quarter, and because the Cardinals didn't have the sense to bat a late 4th qtr Niners fumble out of the end zone for a touchback.  Both cases resulted in the Niners getting a ball back that in most cases they wouldn't have, which then led to last minute wins.

In a not very dissimilar alternate universe, Dante Hall fields that punt cleanly & the Rams win, the Cardinals either recover the Niners' fumble or at least bat it out of the endzone for a change of possession touchback, and the Niners are 0-8.  One missed FG by one of the Dolphins' opponents & they get at least one win.  In any case the way the teams have played lately, the Niners are the only team that is actually getting worse week in week out.  I'm going to assume the Raiders are going to let JaMarcus play pretty soon, and they might get exciting to watch.
