24 July 2007: it's 1987

a Tammy Faye tribute of sorts is promised, excerpts from Ted Koppel on Nightline.

New Order "True Faith" is indeed a most excellent TotHK.

ETA: and I suppose it will be a good segue into Jim & Tammy talking about theirs, too.

a Tammy Faye tribute!

Well, you knew this would happen sometime this week. He replayed her Morning Show appearance yesterday.  He's just WAY too easy on her ("I'd like to think she wasn't aware of Jim's scams" he said yesterday -- sure, Dave).  I mean, it's nice that she hugged AIDS patients etc but PTL made LOTS of money off a lot of poor, trusting old ladies.  And that buys a lot of mascara.

"I'm no angel..."

Heh heh, yeah, that's putting it mildly.
Let's get right to it.

ok, the first clip of Jim & Tammy leads into Gregg A. "I'm No Angel".

I guess Dave is trying to show some perspective.

ETA: Does anyone think any other radio deejay is doing anything remotely like this for the memory of Tammy Faye?

yeah, me neither.  Dave's one of a kind for sure.

I'd guess we're going to hear Devil's Radio in here somewhere, except we heard it in the last '87 set too, iirc. (Which doesn't mean we won't hear it again.)
Let's get right to it.

C'est la 'trina!

It's clear that Falwell was a FAR bigger scumbag than either of the Bakkers -- he saw an opportunity and swooped in. What a fucking hypocrite. But that doesn't change what Jim & Tammy did while building Six Flags Over Jesus.  Organized religion is (to me) the real abomination here. Sorry for the reverse proselityzing.

Hmmm. Showdown at Big Sky--perhaps portending a face off between Falwell and Jim & Tammy?

No argument from this Lutheran, and you wouldn't get much from either of my seminary-graduate parents either.

duh -- "All that Heaven Will Allow"  BOS Broooce.  Wish Dave'd play the Mavericks' version in '93 or '94.

I think I'll vote for Bruce Springsteen "All That Heaven Will Allow", a fairly rare track from Dave.
