My eyes all a-mist from the Smoke From a Dist-ant TOTHK!
Bob mentioned the NYC blackout (30th anniv is tonite!) -- did anyone else watch "The Bronx is Burning" on ESPN this week. Still can't get past Turturro's fake Billy Martin ears, but everyone else is doing a fine job.
Belated BOS to Sanford-Townsend. I watched some of "The Bronx Is Burning" (copy editor note: their non-capitalization of "Is" bothers me every time I see it) and thought Daniel Sunjata (sp?), whom I'd seen in "Take Me Out," made for a vibrant Reggie, but the script is way too modern-soap-opera; despite what Desperate NipTuck values would have you believe, a crisis does not need to arise in Every Scene for the show to have dramatic value.
Sunjata is VERY talented -- he's one of the firemen on
Rescue Me and I saw him as Langston Hughes (!) in an indie flick a few years back whose name escapes me. The show seems to want to make some sort of connection between the Yankees-in-crisis and Son of Sam, which is pretty "WTF?" I'd say. But I'll continue watching for the recreation of time & place and the characterizations (Oliver Platt makes a great Steinbrenner, I think). I'm especially interested in the portrayal of Thurman Munson; I was working at ABC the day he was killed -- I remember the sports dept going into a tizzy, as it happened about 5 in the afternoon -- and then hearing guys say, essentially, "well, now he'll be canonized, and everyone will forget what a jerk he was".
