The other night Little Steven played Sonny's lone solo hit, the unjustly forgotten "Laugh at Me'.

Since covered by, among others, Mott the Hoople and/or Ian Hunter (he did it at his Fillmore gig a couple months back), the Groovie Ghoulies, and the Skeletons, the best band ever to come out of Springfield Missouri.

And yeah, it's a great great song.

CG's running ads for "California Dreaming" a compilation CD featuring "the best groups and singer/songwriters to come out of Calif".  A great idea for an album (there was actually a radio station in Santa Monica that had an all-Cali format in the late '80s), but the commercial features Carly Simon's "You're So Vain"... and she's a NYC girl. Oops.

Oddly, KFOG played that Rod Stewart cover of "Twistin'..." about 10 mins before KaBoom started, and I remember thinking it was one they never play, I don't think it even shows up in A-to-Z.

I cannot remember the last time I heard that Eagles song.

gonna have to pack up for the day, but since the music logs are running a couple songs ahead I just had to stick around for Steve Goodman's ode to tow-truck drivers "Lincoln Park Pirates".  Woot!

CG plays a Gene Pitney obscurity, "Backstage" one of his mid-'60s hits that didn't do too well here but was Top Ten in the UK, where he was beloved.

And it's followed by Midge Ure's absolutely wonderful "If I Was".

Fab CG find: Harry J Allstars,  "Liquidator", a reggae instrumental from 1969 that begins with the same exact intro as The Staples' "I'll take You There", which came out 2 years later. Guess somebody did some "borrowing".

OMFG! The English Congregation, "Softly Whispering I Love You".

Followed by an even bigger OMG, the New Seekers' cover of Delaney & Bonnie's "Never-Ending Song of Love". New to me.

holy flaming mother of god! Georgie Fame covering Billy Stewart's "Sitting in the Park".  CG has been mind-blowing today.
