Between the Bette Oscars clip, the "It's a Living" theme, and "Mommie Dearest," it's a trifecta of fabulous festivity!

Obviously Sunday nite's show wasn't gay enuf for Dave. Maybe he's protesting the censorship of Robin Williams' routine by ABC.

Hey Alicat, who's your new avatar, and what's that she's holding?

She was the main character in a show called Witchblade, http://www.tvtome.com/Witchblade/

Very cool. The arm thing had powers.

Geoff your subject line refers to Dire Straits... I'm confused.

I'm also NOT sticking around for Annalisa's song-and-a-T-Shirt thingy. KFOG must be trying to boost TSL (Time Spent Listening), they've got Dave (and presumably everyone else) saying things like "just 3 minutes to [insert song title]".  But 3 minutes is an eternity if you're listening to bad commercials...

nice "mommie dearest" trailer!

I just checked IMDb (cuz you never know), and sure enough Mara Hobel, the little girl who played the young Christina Crawford, has continued to make movies.  Last year she was even in Kinsey.  She is credited as 'Female Student #2'.

re: Ali's avatar - I almost became a Witchblade fan, saw the first 3-4 eps anyway.  The gal's name is Yancy Butler.  She made a decent action movie with Wesley Snipes that involved a lot of parachuting, called Drop Zone.

This is my version of snarkiness, and it takes a lot of cranky for pants this big!  I don't know (or care) who wrote Winning, you guys infer Russ Ballard?  What I do think is that it's just a shameless Mark Knopfler ripoff as far as guitar tone, just like Rod Stewart's "Young Hearts" (or Turks, or Love, or something)  Although, I get so tired of Carlos' modern tone (Modern means everything except "Winning") that sometimes I like hearing it, just for variety!  Did you hear him on the Oscars?  Same solo, different song.

Have fun -- NYC looks lovely after it snows. Seriously.

Don't know where you're staying but I recommend breakfast at either Elephant & Castle (Greenwich Ave near 12th) or NoHo Star (Bleecker & Lafayette) and of course a hot dog (or 3, they're cheap) at Gray's Papaya or Papaya King (all over town).  And if you do dinner with Gaz in his 'hood, make sure you go to Rocco's for dessert.  Gaz can direct you to the great used record stores of NY, I'm sure.

You're absolutely right, of course (about the Knopfleresque sound and about Carlos on the Oscars).  The Russ Ballard orig of "Winning" predates Dire Straits, BTW.

The weather is dismal.  Whatever you've heard, it's that bad, though the city crews and locals have done a good job clearing the roads and sidewalks.  Hope you've got some kinda boots, still.  Dinner is better for me Saturday than Sunday; Mike noted a few good places in my neighborhood but I'm open to ideas.  See ya soon!
