aside to Mike:
You hear anything about the new Dreamgirls movie? Premiered last night at the new Westfield. I heard a rave review about it.

Last night was the first look anyone's had at it -- it's been the presumptive Oscar frontrunner for months, even tho' no one had actually seen it (which is pretty silly IMHO, but that's H'wood).  I'm skeptical about "buzz" but the Academy loves musicals.  I can't imagine it'll suck; I saw it on B'way 20 years ago and enjoyed it, the music is a clever pastiche of '60s Motown. But Best Picture? I dunno.

and here it is. What on EARTH posessed Dave to play this?

I one described this record to someone who'd never heard it. I said "it's really smarmy" and the other person said "a smarmy Bobby Goldsboro record? No! REALLY?"

Man, that was some line "when I looked at her two lips" rhyming with "Juleps".  Hilarious.

I welcome any efforts on Dave's part to play more cheeze, even when the results smell funny.  Maybe he was inspired by that Millie Jackson reissue!

(Now, for a follow-up, I double dog dare him to play either "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" or "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song.")

This from the same guy who rhymed "what the heck" with "hugged my neck" on his biggest hit.  Enough to make Rod McKuen proud.

Bobby G didn't write "Honey" (that was the erstwhile Mr. Vicki Lawrence, Bobby Russell). Not sure who wrote "Summer".
