Here are the ones you guys didn't get yet, with some hints sprinkled about.

1.) Abraham Lincoln
3.) Ayn Rand (RGMike actually queried this long ago & I'm recycling it)
4.) Bette Davis (it's not her eyes they mention)
5.) Bob Dylan
12.) Catherine the Great
14.) Charles Darwin (song also mentions Sir Isaac Newton & Art Linklater)
17.) Chuck Berry (a band Dave plays A LOT, but which seldom get BOS votes from anyone but me)
21.) Ella (Fitzgerald) (thought this would be easy, a big 70's hit from a major artist)
23.) Frank Zappa (this was the song every kid in the 70's learned on the guitar 1st)
26.) Gainsborough
27.) Gloria Vanderbilt (80's OHW)
29.) Harry Nillson
38.) Luther (VanDross) (no excuse for RGMike not getting this one)
42.) Mick Jagger (the 2nd hit of an 80's 2-hit crossover wonder)
50.) Ricky Ricardo (one of Gaz's perennial WOS artists)
51.) Ronald Reagan (big 80's UK hit, big drug song, among several possibilities)
56.) Syngman Rhee

#12 & #26 are from songs by bands that are already among the answers.
#29 & #56 are from songs that name drop sooo many people, you just know they had to make the list somewhere.

..and here are two that, although I'll accept the answer posted, I hope you can find the answer I was looking for.
37.) Liberace - Nina Simone, "My Baby Just Cares For Me"
when Marty arrives back in 1955, this is the song he hears as he walks by the record store, which has a sign out front reading Just In - "Sixteen Tons" & "The Ballad of Davey Crocket"
39.) Mario Andretti - Shania Twain, "That Don't Impress Me Much"
the first hit record by a legendary southern rock band that has now gone over to the dark side.

ETA: make that 3...
28.) Greta Garbo - Madonna, "Vogue"
We heard this song recently from Dave, it was the #1 song of the whole year (and it is mostly talking about someone else on this list).
"Music is the Earth, People are the Flowers, and I am the Hose."

Mario Andretti woulda sure been proud
Of the way I was movin' when I passed that crowd
Comin' out the door and headin' toward me in a trot
And I guess I should-a gone ahead and run
But somehow I couldn't resist the fun
Of chasin' them all just once around the parkin' lot.

Well, they're headin' for their car, but I hit the gas
And spun around and headed them off at the pass
I was slingin' gravel and puttin' a ton of dust in the air
Ha Ha, well, I had 'em all out there steppin' and fetchin'
Like their heads were on fire and their asses was catchin'
But I figured I oughta go ahead an split before the cops got there.

And was Greta Garbo mentioned in Bette Davis Eyes?

He shoots, he scores!

She's got Greta Garbo stay-back thighs, she's got ____ ____ ____.

If you listen carefully right now, you'll get another one.

5.) Bob Dylan

Counting Crows, "Mr. Jones"

29.) Harry Nilsson

Reunion, "Life Is a Rock"?

56.) Syngman Rhee

Billy Joel, "We Didn't Start the Fire"

Mark, you mind if I write a sequel set to this?  Or should I send you ideas for your own seq?

I alluded to this earlier in the thread, but there are TWO songs (big hits, too) that mention Marvin (Gaye) by first-name only.
