Wasn't the band name itself snagged from A Clockwork Orange?

True dat.

Tho' I don't think that reference came from the novel.

here's Steppenwolf, I know that's a novel.

It is from the novel, which I read at least twice before ever seeing the film. When Alex goes in to buy the latest Ludwig Van, he notes with disdain some of the pop acts on the charts, one of which is The Heaven 17.

I think all of these groups got their names from a book, play, or in the case of the Thompson Twins, a comic strip (Rin Tin Tin in case you didn't know).

If I'm right, count on some Steely Dan in either the 1 or 2 positions.

Anthony Burgess is even cooler than I thought!  And you have nailed it, bub.  Genesis (haha!) and now the Doors.

That one I don't know & am eager to find out.  Same with Level 42.

I corrected above, that was one of those brain farts that happens somewhere between neural cortex and typing fingers.  I actually had some Tin Tin comics in German at one time.
