damn, that segue -- "I'm Doin' Fine" into "Long Train Runnin'" -- is the Summer of '73 writ large, for me...  the only thing missing is Gilbert O's "Get Down".

BOS2 Martha Mitchell -- can't WAIT to see Streep do that monologue in the movie.  That'll win her another Oscar, for sure.

BOS for Time, even though we've heard it a million times.  It's just an amazing record.

BOS4 "Bloo Collah"

I've never understood, tho' --- is he caiming to BE blue collar, or is is addressing a blue collar guy who (he thinks) just can't fathom what it's like to be a creative artistic type?  if the latter, that's pretty obnoxious.

That was exactly the line I was going to quote--one of the more insightful descriptions of the state of Being British. Stiff upper lip and all that.

If you read Get Fuzzy in the comics page, they've been dealing with the incomprehensibility of British slang--cockney and otherwise--to Americans.

She was black as the night
Stories were whiter than white

And I still say Janis Ian adressed the problem far more impressively in 1967.

Was this still on the charts in early '73?  I think of this as a '72 song but it could be an overlapper. But I'll BOS5 anyway.

Thank heavens for cow orkers who actually know enough to keep their traps shut when it's clearly a pointless waste-of-time meeting, back out in time for the tail end of Mr. Mayfield.
