More Similes
« on: September 28, 2006, 10:07:03 AM »
1.) driving like a nut in the rain
2.) it rained like a slow divorce
3.) soft driven, slow and mad, like some new language
4.) like a nervous magician
5.) like a pickled priest who was being flambed
6.) like a star that can't wait for the night
7.) like an Adam and an Eve
8.) like an itch in your headphones
9.) like dusk to dawn
10.) like Jesse James
11.) like Josef Stalin & Ghandi
12.) sitting down like the Buddha sat

The above songs are all normal classic rock/AOR/10at10 regulars.  The last is a Twins playoff baseball special, but although it's among the artist-in-question's greatest hits, I doubt KFOG ever played it.

13.) I've got mad hits like I was Rod Carew

1) Crawling From the Wreckage, Edmunds
5) Athena, the 'oo
12) 88 Lines/44 Women, the Nails

I'm guessing 13 is either BNLs or the Beastie Boys.

Right on all FOUR accounts, as long as you remember which of those last two bands KFOG doesn't play.

...and as usual, I thought the most difficult ones were 1, 12 & 13, and those were among the first to go. Go Figure.

The other one for #10 is...oh wait, no that was Etta James-I was gonna say Fleetwood Mac. Never mind.
Let's get right to it.

10.) like Jesse James

What Mike said.  Cher's "Just Like Jesse James" is the most obvious example, though I doubt KFOG's ever played it (would be welcome in a 199x set, though).  Also Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot's "Bonnie et Clyde."  But I can't come up with a likelier candidate.

Definitely the Beastie Boys, though I'm blanking on what song.  "Paul Revere"?

There's def another "Jesse James" song and it's driving me Gnarls Barkley.

Is there a third song that mentions Rod Carew? 'cause you could add it to the Beasties and Adam Sandler's "Hannukka Song" for a bizarre M3S.

The Rod Carew is from "Sure Shot".

You forget my self-imposed rule excluding the lyric from occurring in the song title.  So my Jesse James reference is by that definition NOT from Cher.  It is however from a song with more than one version & we've heard either version in more than one station's 10at10 set.  Cover version is by one of Mike's personal faves.

Hey, no one got

2.) it rained like a slow divorce
4.) like a nervous magician
6.) like a star that can't wait for the night
7.) like an Adam and an Eve

2 is the most obscure, but I know both Urth & I have given it BOS votes the time or two Dave has played it a set from the 80's.

4 is a big hit from the 90's, and I remember once Gaz telling me how much he liked the video.

6 I thought would go down quickly, especially with Rod chiming in.  It's his favorite group.

7 is by a group we have heard in today's set, but not from this year.

2. isn't Robbie Robertson's "Somewhere Down the Crazy River," is it?

I liked a big hit video from the '90s?  I'll give myself overnight before I google that one.

Just ran across another "Jesse James"--Mink DeVille's Gunslinger. It's in the first line of the song.
