I remember clearly one day after church, one of the kids from our congregation explaining to me in detail & with certain glee, just how each verse of "Walk This Way" was about sex.  Which until then I, as a shy 13-year-old, had no idea about.

There are 59, according to the Boomtang Boys:

Boomtang Boys, "59 Ways to Funk"

Turn the bass up high turn the lights down low
Party people in the place know it’s time to go
But there’s one more thing that you’ve got to know
Gonna party all night till we lose control

Turn the bass up high turn the lights down low
Party people in the place know it’s time to go
But there’s one more thing that you’ve got to know
Gonna party all night till we lose control

If you knew what’s on my mind
We’d be funkin’ all the time baby
Once I get you on the floor
You’ll be callin’ out for more tonight
Cause there ain’t no party
Like a Boomtang party, that’s right
Everybody scream and shout
Gonna turn this mutha out tonight

Chorus:
I’ve got 59 ways to move ya
59 ways to get through to ya
And only one chance to lose ya…

Never know just what you’ll find
When I open up your mind baby
Gonna slip inside your veins
Put the funk into your brain tonight
Put your hands in the sky
Gonna get you so high - come on
When I hit ya with the sound
You ain’t never coming down tonight

Chorus:
I’ve got 59 ways to move ya
59 ways to get through to ya
And only one chance to lose ya…

We’ll go round and round… (x4)

Turn the bass up high turn the lights down low
Party people in the place know it’s time to go
But there’s one more thing that you’ve got to know
Gonna party all night till we lose control
Turn the bass up high turn the lights down low
Party people in the place know it’s time to go
But there’s one more thing that you’ve got to know
Gonna party all night till we lose control

BOS3 to the lovely and talented Maxine Nightingale (also one of my favorite names!).

Was just about to say I was digging the bari sax part on that tune--and then we get PTFM,WB, which also has a prominent bari part. It's a baritone-sax twin spin! (Well, sorta....)

Yeah, I actually noticed the bari part on PTFM today.  Funny how you listen for particular things, especially when you've heard the song a billion times.

BOS for The Royal Scam -- a breath of fresh air after Aerosmith's smut (not that there's anything wrong with that).

BOS4 to the Dan, "Royal Scam," which most assuredly applies to the Nuyoricans I worked with while under the employment of Lucifer a/k/a the BMMB.  This should be required listening for any NYer.

What's this about anyway? I'm not picking up the timeframe.

And they wandered in
From the city of St. John
Without a dime
Wearing coats that shined
Both red and green
Colors from their sunny island
From their boats of iron
They looked upon the promised land
Where surely life was sweet
On the rising tide
To New York City
Did they ride into the street
See the glory
Of the royal scam

They are hounded down
To the bottom of a bad town
Amid the ruins
Where they learn to fear
An angry race of fallen kings
Their dark companions
While the memory of
Their southern sky was clouded by
A savage winter
Every patron saint
Hung on the wall, shared the room
With twenty sinners

See the glory
Of the royal scam

By the blackened wall
He does it all
He thinks he's died and gone to heaven
Now the tale is told
By the old man back home
He reads the letter
How they are paid in gold
Just to babble in the back room
All night and waste their time
And they wandered in
From the city of St. John without a dime

See the glory
Of the royal scam

I don't lock it into a timeframe; it seems to me the entire history of Puerto Rican immigrants to NYC, who are sold a bill of goods about the opportunities in the city then wind up in overcrowded and dingy apartments while institutional racism and classism prevent their ever realizing the American Dream.  Took me years to realize that "St. John" = "San Juan."

I'm thinking Carribbean immigrants to NYC, but I didn't really have a specific period in mind.
