The South will rise again
« on: February 11, 2005, 11:57:43 AM »
This may not get traction with everyone here, but any fans of good ol', seventies style Southern rock (think Lynyrd Skynyrd, or maybe Danny Whitten-era Crazy Horse) should check out this band the Drive-By Truckers. I picked up their most recent, "The Dirty South" at Amoeba a couple weeks back and am really enjoying it. Sounds as though it could have been recorded in 1972 or so. They do have somewhat of a pedigree in the Southern rock genre: their leader, Patterson Hood, is the son of David Hood, who was the staff bassist at Muscle Shoals Studios and played with everyone from Boz Scaggs to Aretha to Duane Allman to Percy Sledge to Traffic and beyond. It might be a bit heavy for KFOG's World Class Rock format, but I could hear perhaps the Bone picking this up. Pretty great stuff.
Let's get right to it.
