Judge on KPOO doing a mini-salute to O'Bryan, who had a couple black hits in the early '80s -- I've mentioned before that  he was rumored to be Don "Soul Train" Cornelius's boyfriend.  Judge just said he was "Cornelius's prize pupil, so to speak". Not sure if that was a euphemism or not.

Maze feat. Frankie Beverly, "Silky Soul Singer", their lovely tribute to Marvin Gaye. Haven't heard this since it was a hit.

Judge skoolin' me in some music history: Alexander O'Neal was supposed to be the frontman of The Time, but Morris Day ended up getting the gig. Live'n'learn.

More history: the songs on Janet Jackson's Control LP were orig written by Jam & Lewis for a solo project by the lead singer of Atlantic Starr -- and she walked away from the album because she didn't think the songs were good enough! And Janet stepped in and the rest, as they say...

Sharon Bryant didn't want to get a Nasty reputation.

And you heard right about Alexander O as well -- "not the right fit," as the parlance goes . . .

P.S.  I haven't heard Rebbie's "Centipede" or Irene Cara's "Breakdance" since 1984.  And only Ollie & Jerry's "Breakin' (There's No Stopping Us)" once since then.  All three are rammed together in my mind for thematic reasons.

For those of you who want Irish music that's neither Van Morrison nor drinking songs:
