Weird: I heard "Careless Whisper" twice yesterday, each at a store, two hours apart from each other.

Of course, given his recent drug bust, maybe we can call it "Careless Spliffer."

This could become a commercial: Careless Swiffer!

I don't really consider "Set O' Mystery" a "theme set".  And, technically, we're hitting the late '80s today.  Just my contrarian nature.

I have to agree, if only to be contradict your claim of being a contrarian.

HM to "Life in a Northern Town."  I just learned last week that this was written about Nick Drake.  My friend Dave* had thought it was about post-industrial brain-drain from fading cities, and while there's nothing in the lyric to really support that reading, I prefer it.

BOS2 "Life in a Northern Town". Overplayed but still gorgeously evocative.

Their Warners labelmate Paul Simon offered to produce their follow-up album and they said "Thanks but no thanks"...

But he was the one who got them signed in the first place.  The lead singer had some occasion to be hanging out someplace where Rhymin' Simon was & played him a few chords & the Hey-oh ma-ma-ma part & Paul said, "Hey that's pretty good!"

And they rest was history.

Best Fun of Set?

At any rate, I dug these guys a lot back when, although this wasn't my fave song of theirs. Great boozy, bluesy rock & roll though. BOS for me. I think it was released in 86, but I imagine the chart action rule is being invoked.
Let's get right to it.

Sting with the lowest-charting song so far (peaked at #15).

VHM to Sting's beating heart, one of his finest melodies.

BOS3 Erasure. (which peaked at 14, so Sting's "award" today still stands)

Hey Mark, are you putting in any birthday requests to Dave this year?
