Just heard--man, that sucks. A huge voice in r&b is silent.
Let's get right to it.

what a giant talent.  I think I'm probably not that familiar with that many tunes of his (Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally, Hey Jude) but these are stone cold classics, not just a nostalgic look at tunes from my youth.  When Wilson sang it, he NAILED it!

this is a very bizarre page:

More than I wanted to know about his criminal record!

If anyone can e-send me his version of "Hey Jude," I'd love to hear it; I've been hearing great things about it.

this cut is also historic because it brought Duane Allman into the world of session guitarists (Aretha's "The Weight" etc.)  I have this on vinyl, and I got a doohickey at xmas for recording vinyl into computer, so maybe someday.  Here's the wikipedia link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duane_Allman#Session_musician

it's only $0.99 at iTunes!

It's fab -- one of my fave Beatle covers, and amazing that he charted 2 years in a row with terrific R&B covers of the #1 Single of the Year ("Jude" reached #23 and "Sugar Sugar" hit #25).

We sould probably move this to the gossip thread rather than besmirch poor Wlson Pickett's memorial. But here's the link:

I smell a screenplay: Brokeback Hills Cop!

Okay, I moved this over to the Movie Thread, with a related note.

That was great, and I couldn't agree more about "Hey Jude" and "Sugar Sugar".

I'm listening to JJ on KPOO, he's sprinkling his show with Pickett stuff -- right now I'm hearing a swingin', full orchestra cover of "Don't Let The Green Grass Fool You" by the Spinners (!). Have no idea where it's from, but I like it.
