9 Nov 2017: it's... 1969

kudos on Peggy Lee, Tammy Wynette and Isaac Hayes -- '69 was nothing if not a wildly varied year, chart-wise. (The Lee was a hit around this time of year and I remember how weird it sounded on top 40 radio, sandwiched between CCR and LedZep) Everything else: as LN as it gets.

The WMCA survey, this week in '69:

Very cool to see these snapshots of charts gone by. It's weird though, that there are a couple of albums (Abbey Road and Zep II) scattered in among the singles. Any idea how that comes to pass?
Let's get right to it.

2. Peggy Lee – Is That All There Is
3. Blood, Sweat & Tears – Spinning Wheel
4. Jackie Deshannon – Put A Little Love In Your Heart
5. Booker T. And The M.G.’s – Time Is Tight
6. Rolling Stones – Honky Tonk Women
7. Beatles (With Billy Preston) – Get Back
8. Sly And The Family Stone – Hot Fun In The Summertime
9. Tammy Wynette – Stand By Your Man
10. Chicago – Questions 67 And 68
BONUS: Isaac Hayes – By The Time I Get To Phoenix

WMCA discovered that the Abbey Road LP was selling so many copies per week that if you divided the total by the number of songs on the album, EACH SONG's total was higher than the biggest-selling single's total (!). So they started listing LPs. It was a practice that only lasted about 6 weeks.
