The couple from Once, who sang the Oscar-winning "Falling Slowly", are no longer a couple:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/27/once-couple-splits-in-rea_n_161152.html

I was surprised to learn that there's an 18-year age diff between them (he's 38, she's 20) and he's known her since she was 12. Er...

TANC: Just watched this for the second time on DVD on Sunday night, and was wondering if they were still a couple. Great film, one of the best of 2007, imo. I knew there was a bit of an age difference but I didn't know it was that much. Guess they didn't hook up until post-Oscar though--or at least that's their story. So she must not have been even 18 when they shot the film.
Let's get right to it.

Thanks to Tim Goodman for the tip on this one: Kelli McCarty, a former Miss USA (1991) and NBC soap star, has decided she'd rather do... porn!

Etta James hates Beyonce:

Contrary to what the AP writer said, I think a duet is *exactly* what should happen between them!  A sort of fiery, competitive, "The Boy Is Mine" kind of thing, in which they each get to belt it all out.  Sasha Fierce, indeed!

PS: Is Phoebe Snow on Etta's shit list too?

BTW, I note that the new Gatorade flavor is called "Gatorade Fierce" -- Gatorade for black divas?

The wedding is off. Bristol Palin is now a single mom:

Gotta love it.  Speaking of candidate's kids, anyone else catch McCain's daughter on Maddow's show last nite? Very interesting; she says she's a "moderate Republican" and thinks the party is screwing up big time. She's also in hot water for attacking Ann Coulter on her blog.

I've been reading "Conservatives Without Conscience", written by another self-professed moderate Republican, John Dean (yes, that John Dean).  An excellent, almost academic book, and I just finished the page where he also shreds on Ann Coulter, particularly her sloppy fact-checking.

Dean's premise is that the post-Reagan conservatives are in fact authoritarians, and therefore un-democratic and extremely dangerous.

I read a bit of that, too.  I'm on his side, but it does sure seem like he's got an axe to grind.  he footnotes a lot of stuff, but he rants a lot.
