11 Nov 2016: it's... "Party Of Ten"

No idea why it's called that. It's more of a "mystery theme/guess the connection" type thing. I figured it out from looking at the list. Kinda "meh" IMHO.

So we knew the Buggles were coming from the "launch of MTV" clue. Always amusing.

As soon as I heard the Buggles start, I was thinking, hmmm, they went on to be in Yes. So I thought we might be connecting the bands through common members. And Yes came in on cue, owning a lonely heart.

But what will be next? Pondering...

OK, I'm stumped by Tom Jones' "Kiss".

Whoa, I never noticed the percussion sample from Steely Dan's "Do It Again"!

Maybe we're only talking about pairs of songs written by the same person? That wouldn't really fit in with the "10 degrees of separation" that DW mentioned in the lead-in.

there is definitely a connection from one to the next: "Kiss" is a Prince cover, "Stand Back" was inspired by "Little Red Corvette" and so on.  Cool concept, it was just that the songs themselves were tunes I was in no hurry to hear today. :)

I used to make mixtapes where someone would do a cover and then the 2nd artist would be covering the 1st, the 3rd artist covering tjhe 2nd, and so on.

I didn't know about the association of "Stand Back" with LRC. I don' t really hear it, but that's just me.

So the associations are inconsistent. I guess that makes it marginally interesting to figure out what each association is, and it's less challenging to construct then one where all the connections are the same type. You could certainly make it more impressive by requiring that all the songs be from the same year as well has having some other connection.

Enjoying George's "All Those Years Ago". I'm missing the connection with "Stop Draggin..."

ETA: Guess it could be that he was in the Traveling Willbury's with Tom Petty.

Haven't heard Paul's "Take It Away" in a long time. Pretty lightweight tune, but BOSFRA.

ETA: Had a feeling Michael Jackson was waiting in the Wings. (heh, get it?)
Interestingly, I felt like "Take It Away" had bits that sounded very much like  an MJ song, and other bits that were distinctly Georgian, with the big sax section.

Toto's "Rosanna" is a stumper after "Wanna Be Starting Something".

ETA: OK, not such a stumper. I guessed that since Toto is made up of crack studio musicians, they might have had something to do with Thriller. And Steve Lukather and Jeff Porcaro were all over it.

ETAA: Blah blah blah, where is everybody? Are people listening to these shows?

That was pretty cool, actually. He knows his stuff, or can look it up, anyway :-). Now if he could have connected Toto back to the Buggles, he'd really have something.

OK, I give DW some cred for doing a bit of research and coming up with what could have been a really cool concept. However, given that the connections between a couple of the consecutive songs is kind of tenuous at best. Yeah, Petty and Harrison were both in the Traveling Wilburys, but if that's the only connection between Stop Draggin'... and All Those Years Ago, then sorry dude, you fumbled the handoff there. Ditto for the connection between McCartney and Michael Jackson. Yeah, they did a couple of songs together, but these weren't any of them.

Also, it would have been a better leap from the Buggles to Yes if he'd selected a song from the previous Yes album, Drama, on which both Buggles (Trevor Horn  and Geoff Downes) were members of Yes, not just one of them as a producer (Trevor Horn on 90125). However Drama wasn't nearly the hit that 90125 was, so I guess I see his reasoning there.

And finally, I noticed during Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' that there's a background vocal line that was taken from Soul Makossa by Manu Dibango, a Davefave from the Morey years of 10@10. Apropos of nothing else here, but I'd never noticed that before.
Let's get right to it.
