He was known primarily as a successor to Jaco Pastorius in Weather Report band, this band broke up in 1985. Apart from his work in Weather Report was Bailey both on stage and in the studio actively with other greats including David Gilmour, Madonna, Sonny Rollins, Steps Ahead, Lady Gaga and Sting. The bassist went solo in 1988 and spent about 8 albums which Slippin '' n 'Trippin' (2010) was the last.
Victor Bailey suffered for most of his adult life to Charcot-Marie-Tooth, a disease in which affected both motorische- as sensory nerves. After the disease was worse Victor was forced to walk with a cane, in order to support his weakened legs. When the disease to his upper body pulled him to stop forced in 2015 with performance and teaching in the Berklee College of Music. Victor Bailey has been only 56 years.
