5 - Billy Joel, Only The Good Die Young

You know, this just isn't interesting enough to go song by song.  If something exciting happens, I'll be back.

Had hoped to  follow along in real time today, but my boss called at 9:55 and so I've just got off the phone. Hoping that Dennis can wring some life from '77 (I've often been disappointed with the music from this, the year of my high school graduation, but I've also heard a few good efforts, mostly courtesy of AL.)
Let's get right to it.

Yeah, '77 is tough, always has been.

Interview with Carrie Fisher (probably), explaining Wookies and Chewbacca.

7 - The BeeGees, More Than a Woman

Even for '77, this isn't good for me.

there was a big blackout on a hot humid July night in NYC that year.

I'm listening to '74 on the Sound  -- they actually played Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy", which was a nice surprise.

So far this '77 list seems rather pedestrian.

10 - David Bowie... I'll let y'all guess.  Hint:  it's the obvious answer.

there was a big blackout on a hot humid July night in NYC that year.

I remember it well... there was a heat wave coupled with the usual East Coast high humidity.
I took refuge in our cool cellar, and spent many hours listening to a late-night talk show host.
(Can't for the life of me remember his name or the (FM) station... any ideas, Mike?  He wasn't a
conservative, and the show wasn't overtly political -- just a grab-bag of whatever people
wanted to talk about.)

Also fueling a certain frenzy that summer, particularly in the media, was the ".44 Caliber Killer,"
David Berkowitz.

IMNSHO, 1977 was one of the worst years for music, along with 1978.

7 - The BeeGees, More Than a Woman

Even for '77, this isn't good for me.

Yes, Carrie Fisher, and I think Mike Douglas was the interviewer. More Than a Woman gets points from me both because it's not one of the SNF songs we've heard to death, and because it's functioning for me as a serious sledgehammer of my first year of college. Ideally I'd place it in a '78 set but strictly speaking it was released in '77, so there you go.
Let's get right to it.

9 - Iggy Pop, Lust for Life

This one sounds to me like a different mix than the one we've been hearing all over the place in Trainspotting and cruise ship ads and the rest. The instrumental bit at the beginning is longer, and Ig's voice is a bit further back in the mix than I'm used to hearing it. Guessing this might be the original '77 album mix?
