OK, so, here's the deal.  Dennis Willis has  shared the first show with me to share with you, but asked that it not be leaked before Tuesday.  I would hope we could do that.  I'm still not feeling good about how we inadvertently helped out DM's stalker back in the day.  So...pinkie swear?  No leaking?

Quote from: Dennis Willis
Let the news go forth among the faithful! We want folks to be excited and talking about this, but officially speaking, we'll be releasing everything Tuesday morning.

Here is the first show:
https://www.mixcloud.com/soundwavesFM/soundwaves-1010-1983-may-10-2016/

Users can subscribe and the get the shows in their email as soon as they drop. You may share among the group, but please no leaking.

The home for the show will be at http://soundwavestv.com/

Let me know if you post something and we'll share it.

Cheers!
Dennis

Yikes! Hadn't heard that story...

Nice to meet everyone! Thanks for the invitation. This has been such a blast to work on, and honestly, I have no idea how long it will last. But we're having a load of fun!

Is there a way to visit the Facebook page without having to share my friend list?

Listening to the sneak peak right now.  It's a blast to hear Dave's voice (in Don Pardo's role).  Prince to start...

Damn. I really wish I had read this before 1am because a) I really want to listen to it now but I am beat and need to sleep; and b) just thinking about the prospect will keep me awake longer than I'd otherwise planned up until 10 minutes ago.

Pinky swear, no leaks, but I am way anxious to see the various reactions over on the Guttersnilpe board. (Dennis, that's tne FB-based alternative to the 10@10 club. Several of us participate there to varying degrees, but it's a  much larger group, that is probably more, ummm, how do I put this gently? -- representative of the cross-section of Fogheads than we are here.

One question springs to mind immediately: how frequently do you plan to produce new segments?

Guess I have something to listen to over breakfast tomorrow.

And Dennis, THANK YOU for trusting us with this obviously very important news.
cheers,
Jim

Hey Jim -

Thanks, that means a lot. The plan is to go three times a week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This is a love of the game venture at this point, so we hope that we can generate some revenue. We're exploring some options. If we can make it financially viable, it's possible we go five days a week. We'll see. I can tell you there is a basic 3-month plan so if we can get enough listens and people like it, that's a good thing!

It's early - we still have some elements and one or two things are a tad rough but we are having a blast! Feel free to share the fact that this is coming with whomever you wish, but obviously please keep the link under wraps. Tuesday is launch day!

As for this group, I've combed over the past playlists like crazy and it struck me that there is a true love here for what we are attempting to do. So why not?

Thanks for welcoming me!

Dennis

Well it took me a little longer than yesterday to get a chance to listen to the show, but I like! Some familiar songs, a few deeper cuts (some of which I'm not sure I've *ever* heard, which I consider a plus), some interesting news bits, all in all I think you're on the right track.

Looking around the Soundwaves page, I get a serious leaning toward 80s music. Is that going to extend to 10@10 as well, or will there be a broader selection of years to choose from? Also, I imagine you'll be developing your own store of bumpers and sounders as you get into it. I did find myself wanting to hear the old familiar bits like "The solid gold special" and "Super hit SIX-six six!" but I suppose those are Cumulus property at this point, at least with regard to the 10@10 franchise.

One more question: how long will the files be posted on your page and/or Mixcloud? Will they have a shelf-life of, say. a week or two, and then be replaced with fresh content, or do you plan to archive them online indefinitely?

You did say it's OK to tell people about it, so I'm thinking I'll post about it on the Guttersnipe FB group a little later today, and just give the link to the soundwavestv.com site (not the mixcloud link -- that will be out there soon enough anyway).

Best of luck tomorrow -- hoping you collect a whole lot of clicks!
Let's get right to it.

Hey Jim - Lots of questions, with some answers.

First, thanks for the feedback!

-Yes, Soundwaves leans more 80s but 10@10 will span 1965-2005.
-Cumulus only owns old shows, not the elements. I'm with you. I'd love to track those down. Plus, Cumulus doesn't really even care much about the past. You give them too much credit! If you find something cool, please send it my way!
-The files will be posted indefinitely, so long as Mixcloud continues to exist, and they will be archived on the SW site. Tomorrow, there will be a drop-down on SWTV and archives will be easy to find, with the current shows up top. I might even soft-launch tonight just to make sure everything works.
-Yes, tell people! We'll be "live" tomorrow morning. And yes, the soundwavestv.com link would be appreciated!

Thanks for your feedback and thoughts. I really want this to be something cool for everyone, so input and sharing is much appreciated!

Cheers!

Just listened to it. Thanks for doing this! 1983 is one of my favorite years. This feels a lot like the DM 10@10s.

Digging the less heard tracks. This one did a good job at representing a bunch of genres...but there will be later sets that lean more towards one direction or other? Many of Annalisa’s 80’s sets were heavily New-Wave leaning, which I loved...

Also, not sure if this was just my computer but the volume on some of the clips seemed a lot louder than the tracks...but I liked the selection of clips!

We've got a Friday the 13th this week -- will you be doing "Hits From Hell"?

Thanks to all! Obviously, you know and love this show and we want to do it justice - and have fun!

Yes! There will be a Hits from Hell. And to think, we almost went with "scary" songs...

There may be times when we lean more in favor of, say, new wave - but we like to vary it up too!

Regarding the mixing levels, it's a sweet science when you don't use a limiter (which I think compresses the sound). It's interesting to hear how it sounds on various devices.

Tomorrow is launch day. Fingers crossed!

Listening on the house computer (the only one with a high-speed connection) usually isn't
possible because of logistical issues.  Recently when I have attempted it, I find I cannot
connect to mixcloud in any manner.  I get

Invalid OCSP signing certificate in OCSP response.  (Error code: sec_error_ocsp_invalid_signing_cert)

which a cursory web search indicates is a problem on their end.  Anybody else using Firefox?
I can believe the issue might be our version is not current, but when & if the answer to problems
is "upgrade your browser," my reply is usually, "no thanks, your service isn't worth the bother."

Also, is there a service that allows one to capture the streams from Mixcloud, or has that been
prevented by the copyright cartel?
