4 March 2016: it's Purple Friday (Prince Set)
« on: March 02, 2016, 07:53:57 AM »
Irish Greg spilled the beans this morning -- they're going all-out for the Prince concert; "Throwback Thursday" will include Prince songs all day and then AL will do a Prince 10@10 on Friday.

Given that AL played "When Doves Cry" last week in an '84 set... here's hoping we can avoid hearing it again. Certainly plenty of other great stuff to choose from.

ETA: and lo, AL has a request thread up!  I requested 3 '90s tracks that I've asked for multiple times w/out success (Cream, Thieves in the Temple and Money Don't Matter 2 Nite) -- if I can't get one played in an all-Prince set then I give up.

Is it that amazing that Prince is doing a concert? I mean, it's not like he died. There better be some serious rarities or this is really pointless.

Maybe AL can dig up a recording of Prince doing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".  That would be awesome.  But probably not.

I call this "pandering to the target demo". Guess the Weiland/Bowie sets saw a ratings spike.

"shirts against blouses" --> "I Would Die 4 U"

we're firmly in early-'80s hit territory so far, sadly.

Dave Chapelle's show -- his Prince imitation was a big deal at the time.

A welcome NTM choice! The organ sound reminds me of another particular song, but I'm having trouble placing it. Possibly The Bird by Morris Day and the Time.
