actually the AC version charted in the UK in Jan '68.  I always thought the American Breed version was the cover, or else that they did it simultaneously.

ok, since no one answered:

andre fischer (drummer for american breed and rufus) was once married to natalie cole. and i once impersonated him on a dare. natalie cole was in town, and my coworkers and i were trying to figure out where she was staying so we could dream of stalking her at the hotel. the clerk at the fairmont let the cat out of the bag before she quickly hung up the phone. i won $10, and caught her live show twice that week.
