Five Years
This one always gives me chills. Another BOS.
(This one is off the Bowie at the Beeb album, too, I believe.)
ah, didn't sound like the Ziggy version I admit I don't know Bowie's albums very well. I know so many of his songs, but I never owned any of his records until much later. I would like to hear which of his records you like, how they rank.
I'd put Young Americans up there as a listenable fave. Those songs are pretty accessible and I have to thank Dave Morey for revealing "Somebody Up There Likes Me" as I'm pretty sure it was on 10at10 that I first heard it -- or where it first made an impression.
Totally agree with you on Young Americans. That album is excellent, front to back, and so many of those songs (Right, Fascination, Can You Hear Me, and the one you mentioned, Somebody Up There Likes Me) never get played. All you ever hear are the title track and Fame.
There's not much in his 70s output that's not worth checking into. I'd start with Hunky Dory and just go forward from there. Ziggy is great, but I think Aladdin Sane is just as good, and there are some great things on Diamond Dogs, too. Station to Station is excellent, as is Heroes (and not just for the title track -- the entire first side is amazing, and side two, while more experimental, is a great listen as well) and the same could be said for Low. And his covers album, Pinups, is great, too. Lodger, not one I've got as much love for but there are a few good songs there as well (Look Back in Anger, Boys Keep Swinging, DJ).
As you can see, I'm a little biased. I'll see if I can come up with a ranking later on, but I'd maybe start with Hunky Dory and Station To Station (since you already know YA).
