WOS and uber-LN (for me personally anyway) DMB "Satellite"
I react to DMB in the 90s the same way I do to Men At Work in 82-83 sets.
I was never a fan, really, and I remain baffled by his huge popularity. He's one of the most boring rock stars ever, IMHO
I don't qualify as a fan, and I'm unlikely to purchase his recordings or attend his concerts. I hear
him mostly on the radio, and mostly on KFOG's 10@10. Given that, I don't find him overexposed.
YMMV.
What I hear are songs that are generally positive, and usually thoughtful, rendered by a band
that can actually play their instruments and make music, as opposed to simply banging on them
somewhat rhythmically. The compositions are not overly dense, yet they are a bit more
complicated and interesting than your average pop/rock tunes. I think the music of the DMB is
likely to have more staying power in twenty years than many other contemporary pop artists.
De gustibus non disputandum est and all, so I realize that upbeat music played by skilled
musicians for happy people may not be for everybody.
