29 May 2015: another "encore" from... 1989
« on: May 28, 2015, 02:29:17 PM »
Nor sure if AL will be back, but even if she's healthy she could be on her way tp Napa tomorrow.... so a repeat of January's "Bottle Rock" preview set would not surprise me in the least.

Cher turns bahk tahm to start.

No teasers or mention of AL or 10@10 at the end of the Morning Show, so I suspect you're right about getting another encore today. Please let it not be that Bottlerock set you mentioned.
Let's get right to it.

Another prime example of the current trend toward "shout-singing" that can't go away fast enough for me.

Yup:

9/4/14- Thursday!! We Turn Back Time to...1989!!

   1.  Cher- If I Could Turn Back Time
(TV: Cheers/ Lillith pregnancy)
   2.  The Cult- Fire Woman
(News montage)
   3.  Billy Joel- We Didn't Start the Fire
   4.  The Primitives- Sick of It
(Movie: Field of Dreams)
   5.  Tom Petty-Runnin' Down a Dream
(Movie: Field of Dreams)
   6.  Bonnie Raitt- Have a Heart
   7.  Stevie Ray Vaughan- Riviera Paradise (B.O.S-Tie!)
(Movie: Dead Poets Society- Mr Keating (Robin Williams) introduces himself)
   8.  The Replacements- I'll Be You
(Movie: Dead Poets Society "Carpe Diem means...")
   9.   Kirsty MacColl- Days (B.O.S-Tie!)
(Movie: Dead Poets Society- "Seize the day")
10- The Call- Let the Day Begin

wow, except for the Kirsty gem, this was a pretty egregious collection of the unnecessary.  Well, at least it wasn't the BottleRock set (surprisingly).

Am I the only one who thinks that Dead Poets Society was a vastly overrated movie?  And that Robin Williams' Oscar nom was dubious at best.  (Now, I think when he won for Good Will Hunting he totally deserved it.)

I like the Primitives quite a bit.  How often has this been heard on 10@10?  Woulda been my BOS the first time around.

Agreed. I remember going to see it and having a lot of problems with it (tho' I'd probably have to watch it again to remember what those problems were).

YMMV, but I'd say there are at least four songs in there that qualify as rarities for me: Primitives, the Cult, Kirsty (natch, and definitely my BOS), and even Cher. Even the Bonnie Raitt tune is one of her less-played songs from Nick of Time.

Now the Tom Petty and Billy Joel on the other hand...

Let's get right to it.

Update: AL is live on the air now; dunno if she's in-studio or on location at Bottle Rock.  And Renee/NoName/Greg were awash in "technical difficulties" this morning so that could explain the rerun too.
