I'm guessing AL goes with a Valentine set, since we get another Fri the 13th next month.

'twould be swell, but there's only so much Celine Dion people can stand... and she just played Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" recently.

Paul Anka's "She's Havin' My Baby" immediately sprung to mind as a top-flight Valentine Hit from Hell.
Let's get right to it.

Sappy ballads always scored high in the voting when Dave did HFH sets ("Mandy", "Honey" etc) -- it always seemed to me he had to go out of his way *not* to have all 10 songs be of that ilk, balancing with upbeat illiness like "Kung-Fu Fighting".

Once again I'll be in a meeting (this has been the WEEK from hell) so take notes, kids.

Looks like we dropped the ball on the note-taking today. I was listening, but buying tix for the Replacements and various work duties took my attention.

Right now we're hearing Harry Nilsson's You're Breaking My Heart (with appropriate beeps) but I think it may be Tune no. 10.
Let's get right to it.

Was this an "encore" from AL's first tour of duty?

ETA: yes, it was -- a pre-g'snipes 10@10, in fact. Am I sensing a pattern emerging, in terms of "classics" being used on annual theme sets? (MLK was another, recently).

In fact that entire week in 2012 was encores.

Nope.  The set cut off after the Moonstruck clip, and the backsell was re-recorded; it mentioned
that this was a revisit to sweet and sour for Valentine's Day.

Woulda bet the rent money that this set would end the marathon but apparently they played it earlier. So I'm listening to the Soundcloud version. One of AL's most artful creations and worthy of an annual airing, methinks..

Oh, I hope not.  I don't mind that certain holidays are perennials for a theme set, but ideally
there would be a fresh take most years.  Especially for Valentine's Day -- what topic apart from
love has so many songs devoted to it?

That being said, while I was listening to this and not aware it was an encore, I had the thought
that the show had a certain creative spark that we have seen very rarely since the change.
Then during the backsell I found out why.
