28 August 2014: It's... 1988!
« on: August 27, 2014, 02:35:27 PM »
According to Annalisa: "On the next 10@10 year: Tom Hanks was Big, Dustin Hoffman was Rain Man, but Dan Quayle "was no Jack Kennedy" as said in the VP debate of the day."

(BTW, since she quoted the "no Jack Kennedy" line I requested "Glad I'm Not a Kennedy". Fat chance.)

I can't address the diversity, but based on my collection of 10@10 shows I would peg
the best year as 1982 or 1983.  Somewhere in there is the peak of the "New Wave" wave,
in my estimation.

quite a bit of love on FB for Lita Ford's "Kiss Me Deadly" -- 'twould be a bustout if heard (and it'd make a great former-Runaways twin-spin with Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself For Lovin' You", as the Cap'n has already pointed out).

Rainman --> Rick Astley, a fine TOTHK!  ("Never Gonna Give You Up")  BOS1 for cheeziness alone.

Bentsen/Quayle debate "no Jack Kennedy" -->   Pixies "Where Is My Mind", which woulda made more sense after Rainman. So much for the Shona Laing idea.

Definitely not if you're judging by 10@10s.

This falls in the category of obvious alternative that White Stripes dominates in the '00's.

Fish Called Wanda --> "I Want Your Hands on Me", Sinead. BOS2 for not being the obvious choice.

Has Erasure ever gotten any 10@10 airplay? I forgot that I'd been wanting to request Chains of Love and didn't do it last night.
