28 April 2014: it's... 1972!
« on: April 28, 2014, 08:11:43 AM »
No clue posted last nite and I didn't hear a promo this morning. I'm gonna guess late-'70s

Jeebus -- late start today.

ooo: *early* '70s.   '72 leads off with Stones, "All Down the Line"  BOS1

The Move, California Man

ETA: I probably should have known Cheap Trick's version was a cover, but I didn't. Thus, this is a pleasant surprise.

Johnny Cash for Amoco gas --> The Move "California Man" BOS2 and a serious rarity if not a bustout.

Never really struck me what a Jerry Lee Lewis hommage this is.

Also cool that these are definitely not native California men.

Mah-Mo-Yeah:  "Go All the way" may be beloved, but it's still uber-LN at this point.  "I wanna Be with You" woulda been nice.

More power pop with Raspberries, Go All the Way (RGMike is typing über-LN right this second)

Could Big Star be next?

ETA: Big Star or Todd with Couldn't I Just Tell You next?

Alex Chilton is AL's '70's Dave Grohl.

Nicely played!  Would love to hear Couldn't I Just Tell You next.

Not sure if California Man is a bustout--I have vague recollections of it coming up at least once before (either the first AL regime or RR with someone else steering the boat--Dave never played it so far as I know.)
Let's get right to it.
