I have often requested "Motownphilly" in '91 sets. And will again.

I would tolerate "Motownphilly" or "I'll Make Love To You", but overall I'd have to say that Boyz II Men would qualify as a guilty displeasure.

Overall, not a very impressive set, I'm afraid to say. The handful of rarities don't make up for the slate of Katrinas. Probably averages out to about a D+ on the "necessary" scale.

EDIT: Let me change that after hearing the replay. More of a 'B+'. Yes, there were some FFs in there, but they were good ones (Peter Gabriel, Thomas Dolby, I don't even mind "Dyslexic Heart" all that much). Arrested Development, somewhat ironically, was the only Top 40 hit in the bunch. The L7 and REM are certainly rarities, and good ones at that, whereas the Soul Asylum, while not necessarily memorable, was NTM.

saw BIIM at the Alameda County Fair one year and I became a fan!

didn't listen, but I would've preferred The Lemonheads' It's a Shame About Ray much more than Mrs Robinson.

that is the rule across the board on 10@10s, including the otherwise adventurous The Peak. It's OK to play R&B and cheezy pop from the '70s and maybe into the early '80s but somehow it's assumed (because of research? because of a few loud complainers?) that your average Triple-A listener hates anything non-rock from about 1985 on.  KFOG is actually better at slipping in soul and even rap in '90s sets than anyone else (guess it's considered part of the tradition started by Dave); it appears to be verboten on The Peak.

Maybe radio programmers and dj's obey the programming distinctions that ossified around then by reflex. Heck, the listeners probably do, too. It's a shame that shows like the 10@10's can't break through that more than they do, but maybe that's a pipe dream for idealists who just can't hack the way the "real" world works (like many, many parallels in politics, to name but one example).

Also, to add to your analogy, the average Triple-A listener hates anything "too" rock from about 1985 on, which explains the absence of almost all hard rock and its variants from those 10@10's.

Just stay in the middle of the road, baby, and avoid the ditch.
