Julian Cope - World Shut Your Mouth

if only Dave (or anybody) would play Cope's old band The Teardrop Explodes, whose "When I Dream" was one of the great New Wave OHWs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EChcNF1ETU0

I got a JC/TTDE best of comp when Tower went out of business, but had filed it & forgotten it until just a few days ago.

This thread led me to discover "Ha Ha, I'm Drowning," which I instantly adore.

My work on earth is done!

"When I Dream" was big alt-radio hit in NY, but when I brought it to one of our music-sharing parties (at the princess' old SF apt) no one else had ever heard of it.

Hmmm, neither of those is on my comp apparently:

Floored Genius: The Best of Julian Cope and the Teardrop Explodes 1979-1991

that's VERY strange, as those are arguably TTE's 2 best-known songs.

Label licensing issues, mayhaps?

Completely missed that. Probably because most of us tuned out and listened to the LA set instead. But I guess it's legal in both years--it was released in '86 but peaked at #8 in January of '87.
Let's get right to it.

so, has live listening of classic Morey sets been curtailed in favor of this new LA thing?

Thanks to the Shraytabase, we can tell if the "classic" is a good set or not; then, if LA is doing a more appealing year, everyone bails.

I feel a little disloyal, but given the spate of latter-80s sets lately, it's good to have an option rather than hearing C'est La Vie for the umpteenth time.
