i never knew that was the edwin hawkins singers with melanie. i'd love to hear the long version, too. the only version i've ever heard is the one on the freedom rock cassette. remember those lovely commercials? i always confused them with randy from the redwoods.

great bs&t version. i *wish* dave would play their "sympathy" in a covers-from-hellset. and "make me smile" is my favorite chicago song.

Do you remember the Motown compliation that was advertised around the same time? The father comes in and tells the kids to turn off the music and go to bed, and the kids scream "But Daaad -- it's SMOKEY!"
