The mystery of his critical/cultural rehabilitation, mostly: Mariah Carey covered "Against All Odds" and went to #2 in England with it, and a bunch of R&B artists did a covers album of his work called "Urban Renewal."  It included a schizo reimagining of "Sussudio" by Ol' Dirty Bastard.

The presenter took great pleasure in exposing Phil as an ass: Around this time he did an interview with Playboy in which he took great pains to rag on Barry Manilow and distinguish his meaningful work from Barry's fluff.  (I know, I know.)  Highly entertaining.

Wow, I was unaware of that -- is he really that clueless as to what an astoundingly faithful clone of Manilow's writing/production style "AAO" is? Yikes.

interestingly, the Eurythmics were on the sndtk of the movie 1984. Doubleplusgood!
