Well gang, it's happened: Village Voice Media and New Times have agreed to a merger.  You can read about it at villagevoice.com or at gawker.com.  Meetings today to discuss the implications -- of course, not being a proper employee, I wasn't invited to the "real" meeting, and must make do with a fill-me-in meeting with the copy editors afterwards.  This isn't going to go down well.
We feel your pain, bub  The NY Times is reporting the story too -- a friend just emailed it to me.

It was reported on KFOG this morning too.  Funny that it has to go through a government anti-trust review, considering how lax the gov't has been about the amalgamation of power into fewer and fewer hands in the media lately.
Don't stand in the way of LOVE!

Musto on the new musical Jersey Boys:

"Big Gaudio dynamite."

I wish I'd thought of that.

Meantime, for those with an affinity for the Voice, there's this:

LOL!  and speaking of, I read the review in the Times today (apparently the kid who plays Frankie Valli is quite good) and it said that Bob Crewe is portrayed as quite the queen. Who knew?

From the resident coffee snob here in Copy:

"Use the good coffee.  You may dispose of the Folger's.  Throw it out the window; feel free to sprinkle it on pedestrians."

One thing I  love about copy editing here is the queries I get to ask that I will never get to ask again.  In the past two days:

"Dehyph, close 'ass-fuck' as noun per precedent of closed 'buttfuck' in word list?"

"Not sure how to hyph 'ultra super gay DJ' here: is he ultra-super? or ultra-super-gay?"

(The latter is about Junior Vasquez, in case anyone wondered.)

And does "ultra super" modify "gay" or "DJ"?

In CNET style (which I often don't agree with personally), it would be ultrasupergay DJ.
Let's get right to it.

When I was driving around greater Cleveland last week WMMS had Mike Teutel, the son from OCC on as a guest (you know, that chopper building show on Discovery channel? if not see here: http://www.orangecountychoppers.com/occweb_ver2_biopage_mike.php).  Now Mikey's a 'bigfella', and the WMMS deejays were asking him if people ever say he looks like this or that other famous bigfella. He said, "No, but sometimes I get Bruce Vilanch."

WMMS guys: "Who??"
Mikey:  "Some comic guy, gets paid like $10,000 per joke for the Oscars."

That last line justified everything that preceded.  This is why I want y'all as my podcast cast!
