"kick out the Style, bring back the Jam" is a damn clever line that no one seemed to notice.

So were they feuding with Mr Weller? Or just not fond of his ties to the Labour Party?

Anyone listening post set? The Police's Every Breath You Take sounded like someone was having fun with the pitch control--it would get slower, then speed up, then slow down again--pretty much thru the entire song. Wacked.
Let's get right to it.

I thought they were making a dual play on notions of "back to basics": the Jam were a less ornamented outfit than the Style Council, plus the longing to make music about Big Important Things (MC5's "Kick Out the Jams") vs New Wave fluffery style.  (That TFF's production was overbloated and far removed from "back to basics" is besides the point -- Roland Olzabal's always been a bucket of contradictions.)
