Where will Renee take us today?
I won't be around for this one, so take copious notes!

Fingers crossed for '60s, unless maybe they're saving that for tomorrow ;) An '00s set would not surprise me.

Good news: Last minute meeting cancellation, so I'll get to listen in after all.
Bad new: Today's meeting is now piggybacked onto tomorrow's so I'll have a gargantuan 2.5 hours of training -- via phone, since I am headed home this afternoon.
And: These LifeAlert stream ads are a signifier of the direction that the KFOG audience is going. Ah, mortality...

over-the-air they're running those Joan Lunden "A Place For Mom" spots.

Caturday already? TOTHK and LN1: Cure, "Love Cats"
-
"Shall we play a game?" -- even the movie clips are LNs today.
WOS1 The Goat at her goatiest. "Stand Back" indeed.
-
OK, I'll VHM Kajagoogoo "Too Shy"

OK, I'll VHM Kajagoogoo "Too Shy"
Probably the most notable track so far, but this set needs to hoist itself up by its bootstraps a bit.
-
RR has typically had serious issues with the early 80's, so my expectations are low.
-
U2, "2 Hearts Beat as 1", another VHM from me.

BOS so far, with the Cure #2, Kajagoogoo #3 and Nicks #4

indeed, some more pop would be nice: DeBarge, a Culture Club deep cut, Macca & MJ "Say say Say", OMD "Locomotion"...
oy: uber-LN Jackson Browne "Tender is the Night". Boring is the set.

and Browne is the LN of set so far.

Halfway thru the set and nary a bootstrap in sight, although there's still time. It would really take just a couple of stellar picks to lift this one out of the cellar

Stones "Undah-covah" -- is this a different mix?

don't think so, sounds like the one I've always heard. I loved this video!

Probably not a bustout, but I don't believe we've heard it in awhile.

Likewise. The Stones had a bit of balls on this record, in no small part due to working with Steve Lillywhite, iirc. Best track so far, and I'm sure certain GS members are in ecstasy right now.
-
anti-nuke protesters --> Yes, "Leave it", one of my all-time worst WOSes.

heh, I like this one.

And back to the depths we go. This version of Yes bore little resemblance to the one I revere from 6 or more years previous, although it probably put some significant cash in their bank accounts.

oh, yeah, they cashed in fer shure. I liked Owner of Lonely Heart, prob b/c I was glued to MTV back then. But as a guitar god worshipper, I felt dismayed that Steve Howe was not in the band. It was not the same Yes.
-
Santana "Havana Moon" -- closest to a rarity we'll get, I guess. (tho' I'm surprised to see that "Undercover..." didn't come up when I searched)
-
Guessing this is Santana doing "Havana Moon." Closest to a rarity we've heard so far but it's putting me to ZZZzzzzz.
-
Testament -- one of the saddest movies I have ever seen.
OMFG: turn around, Bright Eyes! BOS Bonnie Tyler for cheeze factor alone.

Was wondering if it were that or The Day After. Yes, I remember being profoundly affected by it too, particularly the scene with the mother and son dancing to the Beatles. Needed a strong drink afterward.
ETA: Did Jim Steinman have anything to do with the Bonnie Tyler song? It has his bombastic sound; I'm thinking it is.
-
Jim Steinman, who has made otherwise-intolerable-to-me acts pleasurable (Air Supply, Meat Loaf, even Celine Dion).

and don't forget Barry Manilow!

I love "True" but it's way LN at this point.

Granted, I had just broken up with someone and was in a fragile state, but I cried continuously for the last 45 minutes of that film.

A frequent flyer for sure, but I enjoy it too, so I'll give it a pass. (Guessing we must be down to Tune # 10?)
-

Only half the appearences of U2, and I'm enjoying it...
OK, I'll VHM Kajagoogoo "Too Shy"
BOS from me... it was one of my favorite songs from that time.

A bust-out, along with Santana, and it's one of this set's few high points.
And back to the depths we go. This version of Yes bore little resemblance to the one I revere from 6 or more years previous, although it probably put some significant cash in their bank accounts.
ITA, but, as with Genesis, I still like some of their more popular '80s hits, even though I bemoaned
the fact they moved away from prog rock into a more mainstream sound.

Did anyone catch what got BOS?

Never heard of that movie... I thought it was The Day After too. (I haven't seen either one.)
In any case, I was totally expecting 99 Luftballoons next.
I recall that in 1983 there was a widespread, almost palpable sense that we were headed for
a nuclear showdown with the USSR. Reagan was in full bluster about the Communist threat to
freedom, plans for the MX missle system were being discussed, the Strategic Defense Initiative
(aka "Star Wars") was proposed, there was the KAL 007 incident, and in November, The Day
After aired. It wasn't just the anti-nuke activists... lots of everyday people worried that we
were on the brink of nuclear annihilation.

Did anyone catch what got BOS?
It was (ugh) Bonnie Tyler. RR is solely responsible for both appearances of this on 10@10.
-
1983... perhaps the strongest year of the '80s, so more is to be expected. But this set didn't
deliver. A couple of high points, three or four okay tracks, and not even any outstanding
clips. No truffle for the blind pig today.

I totally understand why that song would be someone's HFH, but for me it's the sort of pop cheeze that '80s sets often lack. I also loved the dance cover by Nicki French from the '90s.

I don't think the song is bad enough to be a HFH, and I can grudgingly appreciate why it might
be so popular.
I've done a lot of wine tasting around Northern California, and sometimes when you're trying a
wine that you think is not very good, the pourer will ask you flat out if you like it. (Not a good
practice, in my book, and I think more knowledgeable staff know better.) But rather than reply
bluntly that the wine sucks, I'd say "it's not my style."
Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart is... not my style. (grin)
