He was David Letterman's first guitarist (he was always barefoot). He also had a solo career in the fusion genre. He died a few years ago at the age of 52.

he's Pete Townshend's brother-in-law, actually.

I got called away for a meeting and I see I've missed absolutely nothing. This is like one of Morey's famous autopilot '87 sets.

Wow, interesting stuff. Too bad about dying though.

I'm pretty sure I could live a full life without ever hearing "Dude Looks Like a Lady" again.

This set is very Morey-esque (for an '87 set, that's not a good thing).  Will we get Crowded House and Wang Chung?  ::)

ETA: Thankfully, no.

A tribute from his former bandleader:

“As I said on the show,” Mr. Shaffer said, “I think he was the greatest guitar player ever, with the exception perhaps of Jimi Hendrix. Nobody was ever better.”

Agreed.  That is true with an ever increasing number of Aerosmith tracks.  Still a few I like, though.

I'm having trouble imagining what it could possibly be... it's certainly a vague clue.

I've collected a few versions of this truly great song, and the Sting version seems to have staked out a different archetypal turf than Jimi, or Derek and the Dominoes, which I feel is a very significant version.  I have a beautiful version by the Corrs that seems more closely related to the Sting version than the others, for example.  A real shame about Mr. Bullock.
