"The year Stephen Hawking published A Brief History of Time" sez our hostess. That would be 1988, assuming Renee actually knows how to read. Or tell time.
What will be our token pop/R&B/dance treat today? may I suggest:
I Should Be So Lucky (Kylie Minogue)
Make Me Lose Control (Eric Carmen)
Anything For You (Gloria Estefan)
Sign Your Name (TTD)
Love Overboard (Gladys/Pips)
What’s on Your Mind? (Information Society)
Girlfriend (Pebbles)
Love in the First Degree (Bananarama)
Little Walter (Tony Toni Tone)
Tell it to My Heart (Taylor Dayne)
-
TOTHK - Bon Jovi "Bad Medicine"
-
cheezy but effective TOTHK: Bon Jersey, "Bad Medicine". VHM.

From Renee's Big Hair days in Rockland County
-
Slow change in Russia to John Hiatt "Slow Turning"
-
Slow progress in Russia --> "Slow Turning". Heh. uber-LN Hiatt.
-
The Waterboys "Fisherman's Blues"
-
now, I love me some Waterboys, but this has been LN/FF since the Morey era.
-
Enya "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)"
-
Enya, "Orinoco Floco", er, "flow". Also something of a Morey fave if memory serves.
ETA: indeed, 10 appearances in the Shraytabase.
-
Morrissey "Suedehead"
-
BOS Morrissey, "Suedehead", not exactly a rarity either but It'll do for now.
-
Tre L.A. fragrance into Neil Young "This Note's For You"
-
a cologne that makes you smell like... L.A.? Er, eww.
and the Moreyness continues: Neil sez this note's for yew.
-
U2 "All Along The Watchtower"
-
U2 "All Along The Watchtower"
well, this is certainly a bustout afaik. Certainly preferable to one of the Rattle & Hum "hits".
-
Billy Ocean "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car"
-
BOS2 Billy Ocean, our token pop/soul/whatevs hit.
Played twice by DM, circa '04/'05, and not since, apparently.
-
For being 1988, and having both Enya and Neil Young, this set has been pleasantly upbeat.
-

Not expecting to get Rickrolled by Renee today? ;D

I wouldn't put it past her to stick two cheezy pop hits...
-
LN-infinity: Escape Club, despite my fave mondegreen, "Cher is on the airwaves".
-
Escape Club "Wild, Wild West"
-
Enya "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)"
Just gotta give some love to this. When this came out, we were in Germany, and seemed to hear it wafting everywhere. The international geography quiz shtick works real well in that frame of mind.

oy: the loooong version.

HAAAAAAY! Paula Abdul "Straight Up"
-
OMFG: Paula Abdul. Wouldn't've been my choice, but ballsy for sure. VHM for cheeziness.
And again, someone decided that these sorta songs belonged on 10@10 on a regular basis and I salute that person, whoever it was.

Should be very interesting on BOS voting today...
ETA: Before the set, Greg mentioned that today's set is the "definition of KFOG variety".
ETA: Interesting how KFOG's TuneGenie player doesn't recognize either the Billy Ocean or Paula Abdul tunes. ;D
-
why... YES, Webster, I HAVE noticed the days are getting shorter!
-
This set in general was pretty ballsy. Half of it was cheese:
Bon Jovi - Bad Medicine
Enya - Orinoco Flow (if you can call it that)
Billy Ocean - Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Car
Escape Club - Wild Wild West (LN cheese, but still)
Paula Abdul - Straight Up
The U2 song was def. a rarity, and the Morrissey song isn't exactly a KFOG staple. That really only leaves John Hiatt, Neil Young, and The Waterboys as the safe choices.
-
Enya - Orinoco Flow (if you can call it that)
One, one of these days they're going to play the woman I often confused with Enya, Basia.
-
Renee: BOS Paula Abdul; VHM Waterboys, Morrissey and Billy Ocean (Renee adds that Bon Jovi even got 2 votes!)
-
I'd probably add "Wild Wild West" to the list of safe choices, in the sense it's been played so many times without the sun blowing up.

Does safe mean kinda, sorta post-hippie?

3. Fisherman's Blues - The Waterboys
4. Orinoco Flow-Enya
5. Suedehead-Morissey
6. This Note's For You-Neil Young
7. All Along The Watchtower - U2
8. Get out of my Dreams and into My Car-Billy Ocean
9. Wild,Wild West-The Escape Club
10. Straight Up-Paula Abdul

Yes, given that KFOG in general is the kinda, sorta post-hippie station

I enjoyed the Bon Jovi and Billy Ocean. Cheese is in the eye of the beholder.

I enjoyed them too. Nothing saying one can't enjoy a slice of cheese...or five.

One of the two Enya songs that I've heard that I really like. Unfortunately it's very overexposed,
which has reduced much of the joy I used to have upon hearing it.
HAAAAAAY! Paula Abdul "Straight Up"
Not my favorite Paula Abdul song, although it's my favorite from her 1990 release of
Shut Up and Dance: The Dance Mixes.
I enjoyed the Bon Jovi and Billy Ocean. Cheese is in the eye of the beholder.
Indeed. I don't find either Orinoco Flow or Straight Up particularly cheesy, although
neither is in KFOG's wheelhouse. I would classify the first as New Age and the second as
dance pop.
