Generals & 'Trinas. Nowhere to go but up from here.
-
XTC "Generals And Majors"
No wonder it felt so LN-y: it was played in the last '80 set back on June 20th.
-
Still a fun song and an epic video.
'As John Lydon once said, everything's "ho ho chortle chortle" with Branson, isn't it? Jolly japes.'

VHM Police: "Canary in a Coalmine" is hardly rare but It's one of my fave tracks of theirs.

That's Incredible into The Police "Canary in a Coalmine"

Mine too... :-)
-
Dire Straits "Tunnel of Love"
-
BOS Dire Straits, love the way "Tunnel of Love" begins with Rogers & Hammerstein.
-
"Tunnel Love, it's driving me mad, it's making me crazy."
-

given that the show was a very early harbinger of the crappy reality TV we have now... that's a great segue, assuming it was Renee's intention.

LN2: Split Enz, "Ah Gotchoo"
-
Split Enz "I Got You"
-
NOOOOOOOO!! uber-uber-LN3 "Tide is High".
-
Blondie "The Tide Is High"
Renee played this back on November 1st.
-
THE BILE IS HIGH. I'M GOING TO BE YER #1... NIGHTMARE.
-
Blondie "The Tide Is High"
quick: how many #1 songs have the phrase "number one" in the lyrics? (I've no idea, actually)
-
NOOOOOOOO!! uber-uber-LN3 "Tide is High".
Maybe so, but big BOS from me. Always liked this song -- maybe haven't heard it as often as some other 10@10 listeners...
-
Always a BOS(2) for "Love Stinks", truly a fabulous song, no matter how many times I hear it.
-
Carter/Niagara Falls Love Canal news clip into J. Geils Band "Love Stinks"
-
Love Canal -> Love Stinks (all following Tunnel of Love).
Is Renee starting to do patterns? If so, this is a welcome change, even if this particular combo was already done by Morey or Annaliza.
-
BOS, J. Geils, on general principle.
-
Pete Townshend "Rough Boys"
-
Love Canal -> Love Stinks (all following Tunnel of Love).

Just watched Tootsie over the wknd which has the immortal line (in reference to Michael Dorsey's play about Love Canal): "Nobody wants to see people living next to toxic waste -- you can go to New Jersey and see that!"
-
It still astounds that nobody realized what a gay song "Rough Boys" was in 1980. VHM Pete.
-
Devo "Whip It"
Renee played this November 1st.
-
Devo "Whip It"
Big BOS from me... an all-time fave. Actually I liked pretty much everything on this album -- Whip It most of all.
-

Why, what do you mean?? ???
Devo, another LN.
-
good lord: "Whip it" (LN4) followed by "Alabama Getaway" (LN5). Sheesh.
-
Grateful Dead "Alabama Getaway"
-
Grateful Dead "Alabama Getaway"
Gotta give a little love for this rocker before Mike chips in!
ETA: Too late!

VHM Ramones commercial
-
The Ramones "Do You Remember Rock And Roll Radio?"
Renee last played this February 13th.
-
Some early promise that was dashed against the rocks, mostly.
-
Renee: BOS Ramones; VHM GD and PT

Well, I've always got the below audio from 5 years ago today, thanks to Dave Morey.

Grateful Dead "Alabama Getaway"
Double ugh. There are a small number -- a very small number -- of Dead songs that are worse,
but this is certainly in the bottom five. And as is too often the case on 10@10 these days, there
are far better alternatives. Althea has made several appearences, but would have been
welcome. Feel Like A Stranger would have been good bust-out. And the bolder choice of
playing Lost Sailor/Saint of Circumstance would have driven the Deadheads into an apoplectic
frenzy.
And why not? The apparent corporate-driven homogeneous play lists ignore the significant
and unique local populations in the area's listener base. It goes beyond the fact that there
are a lot of Deadheads in the Bay Area. San Francisco is one of the top cities in the country
for music. There are a lot of musicians, and a lot of ancillary people in the music business.
I would think that deeper tracks are not as likely to be too obscure for this audience, nor do I
think that they always want nothing but the hits.

I agree about those deeper tracks, DM used to play Althea a lot, but what's the problem with such a simple fun song? Double-ugh?
-
Another 1980 set that doesn't make the grade for me. Between the LNs, the up-tempo jangly
numbers, and the songs I just don't like, none of the choices gets a BOS from me.

It's so over-played that its limited charm has been completely offset. I don't find it particularly
representative of the Dead in general, and it has most of the qualities in their music that I
don't care for, and too few of the ones that I do enjoy.

Well you asked...
I greatly enjoy most of the Dead's catalog. But they do have a handful of clunkers.
